Yes folks, it’s that time of year again, the sea temps are dropping slowly but surely and there’s a harsh reminder in the air of what’s to come and the challenge at hand that beckons.
And so the boots and gloves are becoming an ever more familiar sight, why I even saw a couple of chaps donning hoods this week, bless their cotton socks.
Thanks to vast improvements in wetsuit technology in recent years, surfing is now attracting those who might not have previously braced the wintry seas, but can now kit themselves out from head to toe in all the latest keep warm and comfy neoprene accessories.
The only advice I can give, is to hold out for as long as you can, everybody has their own tolerance level, but try and wait till it gets super chilly and the sea temps drop to single figures, that way you will then feel the full benefits of all that’s on offer.
In the meantime, there’s no shame in whacking a pair of boots on and keeping the tootsies warm and the cramp at bay.
P.S. Don’t forget to plug up the earholes, due to surfers being able to stay in the cold waters for longer periods of time, surfers ear is on the increase, and believe me from someone that knows, it’s not very nice.
