ANOTHER LAY DAY CALLED FOR RIP CURL PRO PORTUGAL

October 12, 2013

SUPERTUBOS, Peniche/Portugal (Saturday, October 12, 2013) –A third consecutive lay-day has been called at the Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Moche. With virtually no swell on offer at the pristine Supertubos beach, contest organizers were forced to postpone competition and are monitoring weather forecasts for the upcoming days.

Event No.9 of 10 on the 2013 ASP World Championship Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Portugal presented by Moche completed Round 1 in clean conditions on the opening day of the waiting period and will recommence when waves allow it.

“Unfavorable winds and the lack of swell forced us to call a lay-day again,” Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge stated. “Event forecaster Magicseaweed is providing us with detailed predictions and we’re looking at a positive outlook for next week, so hopefully we can re-start the competition in great waves.”

Contest officials and surfers will reconvene tomorrow morning at 8:45am to re-assess conditions for a potential 8am start.

Up first when competition recommences will be Mick Fanning (AUS), 32, against Fancisco Alves (PRT), 20 in the first heat of Round 2.

The Rip Curl Pro Portugal will be webcast LIVE via www.live.ripcurl.com
