RIP CURL Grom Search presented by POSCA at GOLDCOAST OCEANFEST 2013
If the concept of the UK’s best junior surfers tearing up one of Europe’s finest beach breaks in electrifying competition wasn’t a tasty enough recipe for you, then how about all of that and more at one of the UK’s premier surf and music festivals….GOLDCOAST OCEANFEST!

We are stoked to announce that the second stop in the 2013 Rip Curl Grom Search presented by POSCA will be part of the 15th consecutive GoldCoast Oceanfest surf & music festival in Croyde, North Devon on June 22-23rd! This exciting combination will allow the Surfers to battle out in two days of competition overlooked by the fully licensed oceanside GoldCoast Arena hosting the Live Music Stage and 2 big screens showcasing the international and local musical talents of more than 20 live acts over the weekend. 2013 will see Bastille headline Saturday, supported by a big Oceanfest favourite Gabrielle Aplin. Iconic Australian Xavier Rudd headlines Friday night and is supported by the brilliant Willy Mason. Past performers include Brit Award winners Ben Howard and Ed Sheeran plus Newton Faulkner, Seasick Steve, Jason Mraz, Donny Frankenreiter to name but a few.
Surfing GB will be building on the successes that the first stop of the 2013 series at Porthcawl brought and again providing boys and girls under 16′s, 14′s & 12′s surfers the opportunity to compete in a fun and friendly arena. POSCA will of course be on hand to provide a wealth of awesome activities, FCS and Gorrilla providing cool prizes, and Rip Curl will be providing goody bags and free coaching from top Rip Curl pro surfers Jayce Robinson & Lyndon Wake. “Rip Curl are stoked to be able to launch the second leg of the Grom Search during Oceanfest, as it will allow the UK’s best up and coming Groms to show their skills in front a massive audience at a great venue like Croyde” said Head of Rip Curl UK Sean Harris.
For those unfamiliar with the innovative concept behind the Rip Curl Grom Search presented by POSCA, it is a series of events aiming to identifying the best Under 16 male and female surfers in the UK. The series is comprised of three events taking place at Porthcawl in Wales, Croyde in North Devon and Watergate Bay, Cornwall. A combination of a surfers best two results will identify two male and female surfers whom will then go on to represent the UK in the European finals somewhere in Europe, and battle to earn a place in the Rip Curl Grom Search World Finals in Australia.
In addition Surfing GB will also be running a charity surf event in support of one of Oceanfest’s favourite charities, Surfers Not Street Children from South Africa which POSCA and Rip Curl have kindly offered to support. Details of this will be announced but we have a feeling that it may be a rather special event to be a part of. Visit www.tomhewitt.org/surfing/ for more information on this inspirational cause.
Entry forms will be released shortly on www.surfinggb.com and tickets for Goldcoast Oceanfest/ information on accommodation can be found here so get buying before they sell out: www.goldcoastoceanfest.co.uk/boxoffice/
