European Junior Surfing Championships 2012 Lacanau France
Report by Guy ‘Board Barn” Maddocks
After a week of sun & surf (oh the pain!) it was left to 18 year Old Alex Maddocks to bring home some silverware for Blighty.
The British Team had battled hard against tough opposition from our European friends, many of em getting to the semi’s, but it was Alex that got the last surf on French soil ( well, sand, er water! ) in the Longboard division.
It was a tough heat, with the French favourite putting in a couple of good scores, Alex and Connor from Wales were trading waves along with a Spanish surfer, the waves were shifty and heavy.
Alex snagged a couple and was lying in 3rd spot when he realised he’d creased his board, with less than 3 minutes to go and less than 3 points separating 4th & 2nd. With the clock running down Alex took off on what looked like a scoring wave only to have it close out on him, Connor snagged a scrappy left and did enough to take 2nd and the Spaniard got a score right on the buzzer to finish 3rd.
End Result for Alex, 4th, he wanted more, but on reflection, 4th in Europe, that’ll do nicely ;0)
Well done to all the team & helpers for getting them there.
