British Longboard Union round 2

July 3, 2012

Round 2 of the British Longboard Union season went down in Kernow over the weekend and Mr Board Barn was on hand to document events….

“Well slap my thigh with a smoked kipper, THAT was some weekend!

The comp was held at Crantock beach in sunny Cornwall courtesy of BLU supporters The National Trust for the first time.

We arrived to be greeted by 3-4ft waves with a HOWLING SW wind making life for the competitors and viewers alike SUPER tough, I haven’t  been at a comp and been so sand blasted and burnt for some time.

Turn out was great with over 70 competitors turning up to do battle against each other and the elements, all the usual faces were there – defending champ Ben Haworth, Ben Skindog Skinner, Adam Griffiths, Alex Maddocks, Zak Lawton.  We also had 16, YES 16 Ladies turn up, fantastic stuff.

Surf on Saturday was super tricky taking it’s toll and thinning out the surfers, Sunday ( Finals Day ) dawned with Sunshine and a LITTLE less wind, well outside anyway – not the case in the van after a great evening in the Bowgie Inn fueled by Skinners Ale and curry!!!

Condition were not much better, real tricky and hard to get a peeling shoulder to play with, ( a poor workman and all that!! ) so you know what’s coming?  Yes I went out in the Semi’s finishing 5th in the Masters ( Bugger ! )
