After the huge popularity of the skateboarding ramps from both skaters, BMX riders and spectators alike, we are pleased to announce that they are back again for this year’s Paddle Round The Pier Beach Festival.
The ‘Skate & Ride Area’, which is situated on the promenade area of the festival site on Hove Lawns, is this year sponsored by LOL Drinks. Without their generous support it wouldn’t have been possible to have the ramps this year.
There will be three ramps this year for skaters and BMX riders to use: a 3ft micro-mini ramp, a 5ft micro ramp and an 8ft midi ramp.
Saturday will be the BMX day this year with a range of pro jams and BMX/Skate tag jams going on throughout the day. Sunday will host SKATE day with a range of pro and amateur skate jams.
Entry is free to the ‘Skate & Ride Area’, but there’s a £2 donation for anyone wanting to ride the ramps. All monies go towards the fund which will be split between our charities – the RNLI, Winston’s Wish and Surf Action.
And the fun kicks off on Friday evening with the warm-up event ‘Skating Not Prohibited’. This starts from 4:30pm – 7:30pm where there will be ‘Have a go’ sessions with experienced skaters from Brighton Youth Centre and Brighton and Hove Skateparks Association helping people learn new skills on the ramps.
From 7pm there will be a skate movie shown on the big screen, then from 8pm a collection of surf movies including the Brighton classic “Not California”, plus an exclusive mix of mini-movies from the Clinton brothers of BlurfTV fame.
For ‘Skating Not Prohibited’ admittance to the skate area is free. There is a £1 donation to ride the ramps, £2 to watch the rocking skate and surf movies and £2.50 to ride the ramps and watch the movies. There will be a bar open from 6.30pm – 9.00pm, plus Sams of Brighton will be cooking up some tasty burgers and hot dogs.
