The second Hotdoggers event of the year was meant to run on Saturday and Sunday but with a unanimous vote from most of the competitors to run on Sunday because the conditions were terrible.
When we came back on Sunday morning the waves looked a lot better – 2-3ft and onshore in the morning with the sun shining and by the end of the day it was 2 and a half feet and much cleaner, better conditions. Perfect for the finals.
In the masters division it was the Saunton king Shaun Marlow who took first place with his local knowledge shining through. The under 18’s was won by Westward Ho Local Jack Unsworth.
The ladies saw a close final with Claire Smail in first place followed by Jules Marlow closely followed by Charlotte Bayliss on her new Skindog longboard and Vicky Burley in 4th. The underdogs was won by Barnstaple boy Big Wave Dave (Hutchings)
The open divison as always was a highly competitive part of the Hotdoggers and was held in the best waves of the day at mid tide on the ‘cave’ with right handers peeling through. Saunton Local Greg Norman taking 4th Place followed by Ashley Braunton in 3rd. South Devon’s Angus Murray in 2nd place and local boy Ben Haworth taking 1st place.
Big thanks to Norman and everyone who helped run the contest.
