The 2012 60’s Stylemasters contest at Saunton Sands Beach in North Devon could not have had better waves this year.
In nearly perfect conditions of 2-4ft offshore with the sun out nearly all day, everyone seemed to be enjoying surfing the traditional 60’s boards.
The level of the British Longboarders using these boards is at such a high standard. Hang 5’s, Hang 10’s, Hang heels, it was all to be seen out there. Big names from all over Britain turned up including Elliot Dudley, Matt Travis, Richard Baldin, Ashley Braunton, James Parry, Greg Norman and a number of the Saunton Locals to name just a few.
The final came down to 2-3ft high tide lovely offshore waves. Some really stylish surfing to be seen, especially by Elliot Dudley and James Parry who ride these kinds of boards regularly and this experience showed to put them into 1st and 2nd Place respectively. Sennen Boy Matt Travis followed in third placed with myself (Ben Haworth) taking 4th.
The Masters event was also highly contended with Rich from Sennen, who won the event the previous year, taking the title again. The level of surfing was very high throughout.
In the Women’s it was two time British Champion and Saunton Local Joules Marlow in 1st Place who seemed completely at home on these boards. Everyone is already looking forward to the next Stylemasters event as everyone had such a blast.
