SAT 2ND JUNE – 60`S TRADITIONAL STYLEMASTERS.
SAUNTON SANDS , NORTH DEVON.
This years event is a one day event at Saunton Sands, the contest is as always a very popular event.
We are expecting a full turn out of 32 competitors over three divisions, Open, Masters and a first for the event: a separate womens division.
All the competitors will ride traditional longboards `LOGS` that were shaped before the 1970 period.
These logs weigh in excess of 50-60lbs and are ridden without leashes so control is a key factor, the criteria for scoring the surfers is different to the usual criteria as style plays a big part of the event.
The judges will be looking for long nose rides, the classic drop knee turn , quasimodo`s, soul arches and of course `style` is the major factor in getting those big scores.
We have surfers from all over competing, with previous years winners James Parry , Rich Emmerson, Elliot Dudley, Ben Haworth and Shaun Marlow already on the top of the list to show us what they have to offer in this prestigious contest emulating the true 1960`s tradition style of longboarding.
If your not already down to enter and would like to compete then call Norm on 07787 906525.
THURSDAY night is the cut off for entry’s and strictly no beach entry`s …. so get your name down.
Entry costs £20 and a T-shirt to mark the event is included.
This years event is being kindly sponsored by DUDLEYS / NINE PLUS / SURFED OUT.
There is prize money & trophy’s for the open / masters, prizes and trophy’s for the womens division.
We have a selection logs that are being loaned to us by Mike Dudley and Glen Harris from Surfed Out.
The heats are drawn out of the bag with the first drawn having first choice of the boards on offer.
We would ask all surfers coming to surf at saunton next saturday to please keep clear of the area by the rocks on the right hand side of the beach for safety reasons.
The area that the surfers will be competing in will be clearly marked out by flags and would appreciate everyone’s help in staying clear as the boards are leashless… It is a day event only.
The ` MUSEUM OF BRITISH SURFING` is open in the main Braunton car park and welcome everyone.
Saturday night is presentation night and a film premier of two longboarding films up at Cook Island, Mullacott Cross, from 7pm onwards and there is a carvery on offer at a special contest price of £6.00.
Its £2.00 for the film showing and competitors are free.
All are welcome and we are raising funds for the Hotdoggers LongBoard Surf Club.
You can camp over in the car park at cook island and they have a breakfast buffet on from 8am.
