Nike presents… Nick Gabaldon was a surfer and an inspirational pioneer. “12 Miles North” is his story.
In the 1940s opportunity only came with access. Segregation was hardly restricted to drinking fountains and lunch counters, even surf spots were divided along racial lines. Santa Monica’s “Ink Well” served as the “colored” beach, while 12 miles north Malibu remained a “white’s only” stretch of sand. Gabaldon would seek to change all that.
