Another lay day for the Bear World Longboard Pro 2011

November 12, 2011
LEVANTO, Italy (Saturday, November 12, 2011) – The ASP World Longboard Tour (WLT) Bear Pro presented by Jeep has once again been forced to hold off the starting of this 50,000$USD event due to lack of swell as the stable weather pattern continues in the Levanto area. While competition is yet to commence, event organisers are taking the opportunity to show the elite 32 longboarders the surrounding towns and the beauty the Liguria region holds.2009 ASP World Longboard Champion Harley Ingleby (Emerald Beach Coffs Harbour, AUS) 28, is one competitor making the most of the great weather and time off to enjoy the sights as he participated along with some other 30 cyclists along the abandoned train line which has been converted into a bike track.

The bike track hugs the waterline to uncover a remote area of the coast formally accessible only by boat as well as the beautiful coves, secluded bays and the traditional fishing villages of Bonassola and Framura.

“It is another flat day for the event today,” began Ingleby. “But the guys from Bear and the contest have organised an amazing bike ride for us to Framura. It is definitely the Cinque Terra area and Levanto living up to all the hype about how beautiful the place is. It is a rugged coastline with sheer cliffs and beautiful blue shallow water. Can’t believe you would be riding through a tunnel for about five minutes and then all of a sudden there will be little window where you can stick your head out and get an awesome view.”

“Everyone seems really relaxed even though we know we have a few flat days ahead of us,” continued Ingleby. “There is swell coming so it is really good to actually have the opportunity to check out a location for a change. Normally we turn up at an event like this and it is just see the comp site, see the comp site, see the comp site and go home. (laughs) So it is really good to be able to have a good look around and experience the town here.”

Ingleby also had the opportunity of surfing Levanto earlier in the week during an epic swell which hit the coastline during the days leading up to the ASP WLT Bear Pro presented by Jeep. Wasting no time to hit the water, Ingleby was up at first light following his arrival to Levanto and made the most of the remaining swell.

“I got here late the other night and have been here a few days. When we pulled in the first night it was all lit up and could see the waves were a good solid double overhead. Next morning it was really good and by the afternoon it went in half and we were hoping there would be something left over to start the comp but it’s gone.”

“It definitely has a different sort of feel to it to the waves at home in Australia but it was very rippable and a lot of power,” continued Ingleby about wave quality. “I think there were nine boards broken the other day so it is potentially a place for really good waves. We saw some good stuff and hopefully we will see some more of that later next week.”

Highlights of Ingleby from the pre-event free surf sessions can be seen by clicking on ‘videos’ at www.bearpro2011.com as well as the LIVE broad of ‘The Morning Show’ each day at 9am with interviews, fores and all the latest news on activities at the ASP WLT Bear Pro presented by Jeep.
