Surfing GB Press Release: British Schools Cancelled. British Nationals will run.

September 23, 2011

The unfortunate news that the British Schools Surfing Championships have been cancelled was confirmed by Surfing GB this week.  It seems that whilst a lot of people were already aware of this, a lot still were not – notably those from Jersey who had already booked and paid for transport and accommodation for the weekend.

There is good news however for the British Nationals. Matt Knight, from Croyde Surf Club, has stepped in and managed to drum up enough support and volunteers for the British Nationals event to be held over the weekend of 29th & 30th October 2011 at Fistral, Open, Women and Junior division.  This being said Matt is still looking for help, ranging from sponsors to judges.  If you feel that you can help please get in touch via info@eyeballhq.tv

Any support is much appreciated and it speaks volumes for British Surfing that this British Nationals event has been salvaged by the efforts of Matt and the collective support of the brands and individuals that have so far got behind it.

Surfing GB Press Release:

Dear Members. I apologise on behalf of the current Exec. about the lack of communication. This is not my remit to provide this information but a few things need to be clear to you all.

Due to unforeseen circumstances the restructuring of the Admin department has been delayed. Members of the Exec who are responsible for Strategy are working hard to rectify the problem as we speak. It is therefore with deepest regret that I have to announce that we have to cancel the British Schools this weekend and there is no current plan in place for the BUCS.

Matt Knight from Croyde Surf Club has taken it upon himself to drum up volunteers and supporters to organise The British Championships. The date is set for the 29-30 of October. This contest will provide everyone with the opportunity for people to meet and vote in a new Executive.

The priority for British Surfing is to get volunteers on board to secure our place as the NGB for surfing and provide its members with the transparent and supportive organisation that it deserves.

I am happy to answer any of your questions as best as I can, despite only recently joining the SurfingGB exec. You can contact me on cymraeg_rob@hotmail.com

Thanks Rob Whitney
