With 3 weeks to go before the 5th Jesus Longboard Classic in Polzeath, North Cornwall, expectations are high after the success of previous years. With the event growing year on year, it is hoped that this year will again exceed expectations. It’s a great contest for both those who have not entered a competition before and those seasoned contest surfers. The Jesus Longboard Classic has a well deserved reputation for its friendly atmosphere and relaxed vibe, as well as the later rounds being highly competitive.
The event follows on from a successful ‘Jesus Surf Classic’ held at Croyde on 10 – 11 September. Organisers Christian Surfers UK are pleased to be partnering with Nineplus, Tubestation, Atlantic House and 360 photography to bring you the 2011 Jesus Longboard Classic at Polzeath over the weekend of 15 – 16 October.
With the Jesus Surf Classic growing every year Christian Surfers took the decision 5 years ago, to give the Longboard community their own dedicated event to. This was done to enlarge the entry numbers and increase the number of categories being contested. Also to give the competitive longboard community a more focused stage to highlight the progression of UK longboarding. This year there are four categories, Open, Womens, Junior (U18) and Masters (over 35). Over the few years the event has been running the Jesus Longboard Classic has attracted some of the top longboard surfers in the UK, with previous winners including Ben Skinner and Candice O’Donnell.
Polzeath Beach is ideal for longboarding, and no matter what the weather conditions the surfers will be well looked after at the event HQ ‘Tubestation‘- Polzeath’s unique “surf lounge”.
Contest Director Phil Williams, head of Christian Surfers UK said that “After such great events in previous years, we are very excited to be running the Jesus Longboard Classic again this year at Polzeath. As with ‘The Jesus’, there’ll be some great hospitality for the competitors, as well as a prize purse of £1,000, with first place in the Open event winning £250”
We are also very pleased that although not forming part of their contest series, the event is being endorsed by the British Longboard Union (BLU).
Entry forms can be downloaded from www.christiansurfers.co.uk – and watch out for posters in surf shops near you.
