ASP World Number One damages right knee in Maldives

July 1, 2011

On June 26th, 24-year-old Adriano De Souza injured his right knee while on a freesurf trip to the Maldives. De Souza made the journey home to San Paulo immediately to assess and tend to the injury. While more tests are needed, at first examination it is a light sprain. Local doctors expect recovery to take between ten days and two months.

Local knee specialist Dr. Pablo Barone is optimistic. He explained that recuperation for this type of injury is affected by the age and genetics of a person, and that a recovery in ten days for someone like De Souza can be possible, as it’s not associated with another trauma in the knee.

Eduardo Stryjer from Hardcore magazine in Brazil spoke to De Souza, and De Souza said categorically, “I will go to compete at J-Bay.”
