So here we are, a sunny summer day at Saunton with a brisk offshore breeze, a couple of foot of swell and round 3 of the Hotdoggers league 2011.
Heats got underway with some good surfing in small but nice conditions, early eliminating heats marched on and it was decided a couple of hour break was needed to hold for the pushing tide and it seems this was to prove a well thought out move.
The under 18’s final was by all accounts a cracker, with Willy Martinez, Jack Unsworth Max Welland, and Sam Cavin. It was to prove a day for the youngen’s as Jack pulled a doozey out of the bag with a sick noseride through a white water section that just kept going – result, a 9.5 from the judges – FIZZ ON YOUNGEN!!! All the guy’s came up with hang 5’s and 10’s but none that could match Jack’s ride.
In the open, the tide hit the cave and gave chest high glass love with all four guy’s performing well such as Devon Longboard standout’s Phil Hill and Ashley Braunton, but it was the on form Dream Team rider ‘THE’ Ben Haworth who took advantage with scores in the 9’s in the qualifiers and went on to dominate the final along with his fellow Board Barn team rider Angus Murray chasing him hard.
The Masters saw Keano lucky to grab a few nice waves and take a win and in the Ladies the lovely Anna Gooding took 1st.
(I must admit I didn’t see these heats cos I was working, so it’s my ghost reporters views on the day, thanks to Phil for that.)
1st THE Ben Haworth
2nd Angus Murray
3rd Ashley Braunton
4th Phil Hill
1st Jack Unsworth
2nd Sam Cavin
3rd Max Welland
4th Aaron Bright
1st Anna Gooding

Zak Lawton was out due to injury and hopes to compete in the BLU later this month along with Alex Maddocks who was away on a photo shoot!!!
The end result was THE Ben Haworth held an un beatable points score in the Hotdoggers league and takes the title 2011 OPEN Hotdoggers Club Champion. Will we have a Club and British Champion or two by the end of the month, lets hope so?
Thanks to Guy @ The Board Barn for the write up.
