Craig Anderson is the most stylish surfer in the world. He brings new levels of relaxation to riding a wave, but can also can thread a barrel (especially at Greenbush on a single-fin), wet his rails and torch super-inverted spins and flips – his tricks in Kai Neville’s new film, Lost Atlas, are proof of that. He’s of a different breed to the contest kids, a professional freesurfer, a title that sounds like an oxymoron but is actually a marketer’s dream and the antithesis of competitive surfing…….
Quiksilver are delighted to announce it has extended its sponsorship of Australian freesurfing phenomenon Craig Anderson for another five years. Anderson, 22 (Newcastle, NSW) first joined the Quiksilver team 12 years ago as a grommet back home in South Africa, before moving to Australia with his family as a 15-year-old.
In the years since, his fusion of progressive aerial surfing and classic, casual lines has seen him gain a global cult following, and he is regarded in many circles today as the most stylish surfer in the world. He adds a unique flavour to the elite Quiksilver surf team that includes Kelly Slater, Dane Reynolds and Jeremy Flores.
“We’re stoked to have Craig as a key part of our team for at least the next five years,” says Quiksilver Asia Pacific CEO, Greg Healy. “He’s got such an incredible style and is one of those surfers you could sit there and watch all day. Ando is clearly one of the world’s most inspirational freesurfers and we look forward to playing a key role in the evolution of his surfing in the future.”
“I’ve been part of the Quiksilver family since I was 10 years old,” says Anderson, “and I feel blessed and honoured to sign a long-term deal with such a respectable, high-quality, iconic brand. I believe Quiksilver has lead the way of core surf culture, and there is no other family I would rather be a part of. Let the good times roll!”
Anderson was announced as the 2010 Breakthrough Performer of the Year at the prestigious Surfer Poll Awards held in Hawaii, beating the likes of Owen Wright and Jadson Andre for the title. His surfing has been lauded in feature films Moments, Modern Collective, Castles in the Sky and Innersection. He has surfed in ASP World Tour events and featured on the covers of magazines across the world from Australia to the USA, Japan and Europe.
He’s currently working on several movie projects and will be starring in a freesurfing cameo role at the Quiksilver Pro New York in September. He plans on spending the rest of 2011 travelling, surfing and having a blast.
